Who We Are
Our Mission
Our primary mission at University of Houston is to educate the faculty, staff, student body and public at large about the inequities in the global marketplace and Fair Trade certified products place as one solution to the injustices perpetrated by globalization.
Our mission is to ensure that no products are sold on our campuses that are sourced from exploited workers. We believe that every human being, regardless of race, creed, color or gender is entitled to make a living wage, a safe workplace, access to health services, an education and the right to organize at their workplace.
We seek to create ties with all on and off campus organizations and individuals who share our goals.
And what we’re about!
We, the Students for Fair Trade at University of Houston, affiliate of United Students for Fair Trade, consider ourselves a horizontal political action group. Thus, no constituent of the group can be considered more important or hierarchically elevated above another. Group members share and discuss ideas while giving equal respect to each other during group meetings.
We consider ourselves first and foremost educators on the issue of Fair Trade and other urgent ethical issues affecting our campus. We are not in the business of denouncing earnest seekers of discussion and knowledge on Fair Trade and other topics which fall in line with the interests of our ethical campaign. So feel free to engage our group meetings without anxiety or fear of having your questions or ideas go unheard.
